The Continuing Training Division encourages VET professionals to pursue lifelong learning through a wide range of certification courses, advanced studies courses for the CAS, DAS and MAS, and courses for examination experts.

In 2018, SFIVET introduced a modular-based system for all courses offered by the Continuing Training Division. This allows students to individually combine mandatory and optional modules. SFIVET has also begun to develop an online education planner that will make it easier for students to find the right course for them. The users of this tool are provided with an overview of the current course catalogue, they can create a personal plan of studies or request advice. The education planner will available online in 2019.

In 2018, SFIVET introduced a continuing training course for the Certificate of Advanced Studies ‘Self-Tailored Specialisation in Vocational Education and Training’ (‘Spezialisierung in der Berufsbildung mit individuellem Schwerpunkt’). This continuing training course allows students to select a specific area of focus and create their own study programme from SFIVET’s existing range of modules on offer. It is also possible to have individual certificate courses on the same subject credited towards the new module ‘Self-Tailored Specialisation’. This course and the open module thus fully satisfy today’s need for training to be current, flexible and self-tailored.

In 2018, the Examiner Training Section launched the project ‘Online Examiner Needs Assessment’. This is an online tool that will help to improve planning reliability by determining the number of courses required over four-year periods.
