At home in two worlds

Dear Reader,

SFIVET maintains close ties with professional organisations and is also firmly established within the academic and research community. This positioning allows us to constantly adapt to the needs of practitioners while at the same time tap into the latest research findings. In my view, this ability to span both worlds is extremely valuable since aligning professional practice with research activities and vice versa is precisely what leads to productive outcomes and helps to advance vocational education and training.

One good example that I can mention relates to digitalisation and the new CAS course in ‘Digital Learning’ that SFIVET developed in 2019: SFIVET now has a clear understanding of the practical needs of vocational schools and professional organisations because it organised Digi-Check workshops to assess their current digital skills. SFIVET then designed the new CAS course based on this understanding and on its latest research findings on the digital transformation of working life.

Once SFIVET has achieved the status of a higher education institution specialised in vocational education and training, we will be able to further consolidate our already close ties with the VET sector and professional organisations. At the same time, we will be able to transfer knowledge to VET practitioners from this strong position. We will become the only higher education institution in Switzerland that is both willing and able to devote itself exclusively to the current and future needs of VET practitioners.

I hope you will enjoy reading this digital version of our 2019 Annual Report.
