On 18 June 2021, the Federal Council decided to implement the new Federal Act on the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training SFUVET on 1 August 2021. It also completely revised the SFIVET Ordinance and approved a revision of the SFIVET Fees Ordinance.

The new law governs the tasks and organisation of the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training SFUVET as a public institution of the Swiss Confederation with its own legal personality. It implements the provisions of the Federal Constitution’s principle of legality and the Swiss Confederation’s corporate governance policy and establishes the necessary basis for positioning in the Swiss higher education landscape. The new legal provisions are also required to enable SFUVET to obtain the necessary institutional accreditation in accordance with the Federal Act on the Funding and Coordination of the Higher Education Sector within the transition period by the end of 2022. This also entails a new name for the former Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training SFIVET which will be called the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training SFUVET in future.
