The external evaluation of apprenticeship training at the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) should help to answer the following questions:

  • What are the strengths of apprenticeship training currently provided by the FOT?
  • What are the weaknesses of apprenticeship training currently provided by the FOT?
  • What concrete improvements can be made?

The viewpoints and experiences of those involved to varying degrees in apprenticeship training at the FOT will be taken into account. From a thematic standpoint, the aim is to assess the following aspects: "Selection of learners", "Quality and quantity of support given to learners/improvement of quality through the use of the QualiCarte tool", "Role of apprenticeship trainers", "Role of job trainers", "Definition of roles", "Competence profile for apprenticeship trainers", "Resources for apprenticeship training", "Information flow" and "Cooperation between learning locations".

Method

In order to assess the various aspects, the evaluation will take place in two stages:

the first stage will be devoted to analysing strengths and weaknesses. Various groups of people (current and former learners, supervisors and other individuals involved in apprenticeship training at the FOT) will be asked to take an anonymous survey over the Internet. Initially, the questions concerning the strengths and weaknesses of apprenticeship training at the FOT will be open-ended, enabling respondents to provide more general information. Those involved more directly in the provision of apprenticeship training will also be asked to answer more specific questions concerning the aspects listed above. In the second stage of the evaluation, the results of the survey will then be discussed and validated in workshops.

These results will then be prioritised and concrete suggestions for improvement will be made.
