Valorisation of ASG cantonal scout leaders

People are rarely aware of the competences that they develop while taking part in activities, whether it be professionally or through volunteer work. As a result, it is difficult to determine the value of these competences. With a guided approach, however, it is possible to highlight and document competences so that they can be given value in various contexts, in particular with a view to obtaining future employment.

With this aim, Geneva Scouts, and more specifically the Geneva Scouts Association (ASG) – several members of whom had been interviewed for another research project on young volunteers – asked SFIVET to explore ways to enhance the appeal of cantonal scout leaders and to analyse competences developed through this activity.

Valorisation can be achieved by showing how this position enables one to acquire useful competences. Another aim is to enable former cantonal scout leaders to leverage acquired competences on the labour market.

The first step is to analyse requirements and documentation. In particular, the terms of reference will be analysed to determine the function and working environment of cantonal scout leaders within the ASG. The next step will be to identify and document the competences developed over the course of their three-year contract.

Method
  • Analysis of recruitment process through interviews with former cantonal scout leaders
  • Analysis of requirements and documentation (i.e. statutes, mission, procedures, historical background of the federation)
  • Organising workshops with cantonal scout leaders for the purpose of designing a competence profile based on real situations typically encountered in their work.
  • Explicitation and documentation of competences using the competence profile as a frame of reference.
