Longitudinal study of healthcare assistants and registered nurses after entry into working life
The predicted shortage of skilled health professionals threatens the future provision of health and nursing care in Switzerland. In order to develop and implement effective measures against the shortage of personnel, knowledge about careers in nursing is also necessary.
The Swiss Observatory for Vocational Education and Training OBS SFUVET and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW have merged the datasets of two multi-year longitudinal studies. This was done to better identify the impact that various influencing factors have on the career patterns of health professionals at various levels of training. This project is part of a joint effort by Swiss higher institutions specialised in healthcare to develop the competence network health workforce (CNHW). The results show ways of improving staff retention.
