The European Training Foundation (ETF) is the EU agency supporting countries surrounding the European Union to develop their education, training and labor market systems.

ETF commissioned the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training and the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Finland, to undertake an investigation about video pedagogy in teacher education and vocational education.

The purpose of this study is to support ETF partners countries in developing sound video pedagogy supported by evidence-based methodologies with the aim of guiding academics, practitioners and policy makers.

Method

A scanning of both the scientific and grey literature concerning Video Pedagogy in the realms of (vocational) education and professional development will set the base for the achievement of the project goal, which will be then segmented into 7 different deliverables.

The literature review will be accompanied by methodologically structured phone/skype interviews to selected video pedagogy experts, from the academic, policy making and practice fields.

Once the literature review and the interviews are completed, a research report will be created and will be utilized to build an Open Online Directory composed of best practices, video exemplars, relevant guidance tools and other video pedagogy resources.

Two e-handbooks on how to use video in teacher training and development and in vocational teaching and training, will be created including both text and video. They will provide the partners countries with guidance and rationale related to specific use of video pedagogy.

Projects that highlight the successful application of video pedagogy in 3 countries will be identified and used as case studies.

Three webinars for policy makers and practitioners in the areas of teacher professional development and vocational education will be developed to support the implementation of video pedagogy relevant practices.

External communication and dissemination will take place throughout the duration of the project via blog posts and the use of dedicated social media.
