Solid expertise in modern vocational education and training

SFIVET’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes position it as a national and international leader in the area of vocational education and training. This has also been made possible thanks to its forward-looking stance on digitalisation, which is reflected in its new Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Vocational Education and Training programme. This four-year part-time programme is unique in Switzerland. The programme drew 19 first-year students when it was first introduced in the 2019/2020 academic year. Two-thirds of those students continued their studies with great dedication and enthusiasm. Feedback on the study programme has been very good: the programme modules received positive reviews both in formal teaching evaluations and in informal feedback from students. Also worth mentioning are the digital learning platforms that were included in the various modules of the Bachelor’s programme. These platforms were made possible thanks to third-party funding from Swissuniversities. The decline in the number of students can be explained by the challenges associated with working and studying at the same time and by the Covid-related restrictions. The programme director has now introduced various measures to reconcile study and work commitments.

Enrolment in the three-year Master of Science (MSc) in VET programme remained stable in 2020, with 42 students enrolled. Twelve students successfully completed the programme.

One highlight of the academic year was a trilingual workshop on knowledge transfer on 6 November 2020. Organised in partnership with SFIVET’s International Relations Division, this workshop had to be held online due to the Covid-19 situation. Participants discussed various approaches to information sharing, practical implementation and associated challenges. This event was open to everyone and drew considerable interest from MSc students, SFIVET staff and outside participants.
