Understanding customers’ needs is vital – especially in the digital age

Dear reader,

One of the clients of SFIVET’s Centre for the Development of Occupations wrote on a feedback form last year, ‘SFIVET staff immediately grasped the problem. They developed a working methodology designed with our professional culture in mind. The reports handed out at the debriefing meeting were highly relevant and helped us to find adequate solutions.’ Glowing comments such as these encourage us to continue responding in an optimal manner to the specific needs of our clients in the area of VET practice.

And this is exactly what we wish to achieve with our digital transformation services. The dominant theme from 2018 continues to draw our attention and challenge us in 2019: Among other things, we intend to press ahead with the trans:formation programme, in which we assist vocational schools with the digital transformation. In the autumn, we will introduce a new Bachelor’s degree programme devoted to digitalisation.

In the meantime, the next major challenges for vocational education and training are already emerging over the horizon: Given the increasing skills requirements resulting from the process of digitalisation, we will need to devote greater attention to the topic of upskilling. In order to enable skilled workers to obtain the vocational baccalaureate required to enrol in universities of applied sciences, even more permeability is needed between the various VET programmes and educational levels.

If you have any questions about basic training, continuing training, the digital transformation of your school or your occupation, about research, evaluation, development of VET programmes or about international cooperation – we are here for you.

I hope you enjoy reading the first digital version of our Annual Report.
