Where the future begins

Two hands hold each other

The Centre for the Development of Occupations (CdO) was involved in a total of 191 projects in 2018 and provided support for 114 different occupations. For example, it performed an occupational field analysis for the five occupations in the automotive industry and then prepared a new orientation. CdO’s expertise also proved useful in an analysis of the textile technologist occupation. In the professional education sector, CdO developed competence profiles, examination regulations and guidelines for the following professions: timber construction foreman, timber construction supervisor and master timber craftsman.

CdO staff made the most of their full potential when responding to the specific needs of their clients: At the request of professional organisations, they took over management of review and revision projects, for example for the two occupations network electrician and veterinary assistant.

CdO’s ‘future-proofing workshops’, which are conducted with professional organisations as part of occupational field analyses, enable SFIVET to identify real-world training needs at an early stage. The information gained from these workshops is also used in OBS SFIVET’s trend monitoring activities.

Acting at the behest of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), CdO prepared Certificate Supplements and Diploma Supplements, which enable the referencing of qualifications to Switzerland’s National Qualifications Framework for Vocational and Professional Qualifications (NQF VPQ). The latter is intended to improve the comparability of Swiss upper-secondary level vocational and tertiary-level professional qualifications in Europe.
