Development of occupations in an international context

Lead of the BILT Expert Group on behalf of UNESCO-UNEVOC

Which skills are needed in the tourism and hospitality sector in a digitised and sustainable world? Can they be developed by learners in the current technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system? What requirements must be met and which measures are needed? These questions will be addressed by the BILT Expert Group led by SFUVET set up in 2023 by UNESCO-UNEVOC as part of the Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) project.

The Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training is leading this group with support of the ‘École d'Hôtellerie et de Tourisme Paul Dubrule’ in Cambodia and the Boma International Hospitality College in Kenya.

The BILT Expert Group brings together around 30 experts from Europe, the Asia Pacific region, Africa as well as international organisations to jointly set out trends, good practice examples and recommendations on identifying, integrating and implementing digitalisation and sustainability skills in the tourism and hospitality sector in a publication to be completed in November 2023. The publication’s target audience are actors at the governance, advocacy as well as the delivery level within the TVET system.

The BILT Expert Group will carry out its activities as part of the BILT project. The Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) project is implemented by UNESCO-UNEVOC with support of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and sponsored by Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Method

The BILT Expert Group will work on their output during 6 online meetings. Preliminary results will be presented at an on-site conference (BILT Bridging Event) in Singapore, while the final results will be shared at another on-site event – the BILT Learning Forum – to be held in Bonn.

Results

A publication outlining trends, good practice examples and recommendations on identifying, integrating and implementing green and digital skills in the tourism and hospitality sector in the context of the TVET system.
