Period abroad for study or traineeships

The Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) provides tertiary-level educational institutions with financial support for students, teaching staff and administrative personnel to spend periods abroad for the purposes of study, traineeships, teaching or continuing education and training.

As part of your bachelor and/or master of science in vocational and professional education and training, you have the opportunity to undertake a period of study or a traineeship in another country. This can be recognised by the awarding of ECTS credit points.

Student mobility for study purposes (SMS)

Promotion of mobility activities for students who spend a period abroad at one of their university’s partner institutions.

Student mobility for traineeships (SMT)

Promotion of mobility activities for students who undertake a traineeship in a country abroad.

Conditions

For both types of mobility, the person has to be enrolled as a student at SFUVET

Student mobility for study (SMS):

  • For each course of study (bachelor, master, doctorate), one or more periods of mobility lasting 2 to 12 months in total (study or traineeship);
  • Study with the awarding of validation credits (ECTS or equivalent) at a partner institution;
  • The mobility activities are based on an inter-institutional agreement. The host university must be accredited, hold the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education or recognise the general principles of SEMP and the quality criteria.

Student mobility for traineeships (SMT):

  • For each course of study (bachelor, master, doctorate), one or more periods of mobility lasting 2 to 12 months in total (study or traineeships);
  • Traineeship at a partner institution or company (permissible in the institutions and authorities of the EU, in the Swiss institutions abroad, e.g. swisscore) with the awarding of validation credits (ECTS or equivalent).

Process

Students enrolled at SFUVET must:

  • Find out about the conditions of participation
  • Take note of the documents which must be completed
  • Select a host institution abroad (with inter-institutional agreement) and contact it
  • Discuss their mobility project with the mobility coordination office and the head of the higher education study programmes
  • Complete and sign all the mobility documents before the start of the period abroad
  • After the mobility period, submit a final report to the mobility coordinator and the head of the higher education study programmes

Grants

Flat-rate amounts per semester:

  • SMS (outgoing): CHF 380.- per month 
  • SMT (outgoing): CHF 440.- per month
