Completed evaluation of ‘Informatics Training 4.0’ at gibb in Bern

Switzerland's dual vocational education and training system is to become more flexible and modular and thus more attractive for training companies and trainees. The gibb Berufsfachschule Bern tackled these challenges from the ‘VET 2030’ guiding principles in the “Informatics Training 4.0’ pilot project. This project aimed to make VET for an Informatics Specialist with the Federal VET diploma more attractive for learners and host companies with a flexible and requirements-led training model.

The “Informatics Training 4.0” programme was launched at the gibb Berufsfachschule Bern five years ago. The training model focuses on improved teaching flexibility, self-organised learning and the use of learning platforms. The project was supported by the Evaluation Unit at the SFUVET under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Lars Balzer.

Changing the order of skills areas is not enough

Among others, the evaluation results showed that increasing the flexibility of informatics training by enabling skills areas to be taught in different sequence is not sufficient alone. Instead, more individualised training is needed.
