Memorandum of Understanding signed to enhance Technical and Vocational Education in the Dominican Republic

In a landmark event within the framework of the forty-sixth Meeting of the ILO-Cinterfor Technical Commission, the Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic, the National Institute of Technical-Vocational Training (Infotep) and the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training (SFUVET), have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This significant agreement, slated to last for five years, is set to bring notable changes to technical and vocational education in the Dominican Republic.

The MoU, signed by Luis Miguel de Camps García, Minister of Labor, Rafael Santos Badía, General Director of Infotep, and Adrian Wüthrich, Chairman of the Board of SFUVET, marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of advancing technical and vocational education in the country. The signing ceremony, which was also attended by the Director of Cinterfor/ILO Dr. Anne Caroline Posthuma, further underlines the commitment of these organisations to advancing this important cause nationally and internationally.

Under the MoU, the signatories commit to a range of initiatives aimed at bolstering quality and relevance. Key areas of collaboration include knowledge sharing on teaching methods, developing joint programmes, exchanging teachers and experts, participating in training courses and collaborating on relevant research.

To make this possible, Infotep has pledged to serve as the coordination hub for collaborative activities, ensuring the smooth flow of information, facilitating the exchange of technical teachers and students, and promoting participation in joint initiatives.

For its part, SFUVET will contribute by sharing best practices, offering advice and technical support in the design of training programs, and fostering the exchange of students, further solidifying their commitment to this partnership.

SFUVET extends its sincere gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with the Ministry of Labor and Infotep in this transformative endeavour. We appreciate the trust placed in our institution and are eager to contribute our expertise to enhance technical and vocational education in the Dominican Republic.
