New project on emotional hypersensitivity

People with a pronounced emotional intelligence are characterised by a higher reactivity to emotionally triggering information and to feelings. Research findings should help to determine whether EI is a curse or a blessing. This thesis is part of an SNSF-funded project 'Exploring the hypersensitivity of emotionally intelligent individuals: basic premises and implications'.

Although EI has been mostly associated with positive effects, some negative effects have been detected. Based on these seemingly contradictory research findings, my thesis explores how and when EI is associated with positive or negative outcomes.

The research findings from this study will provide a more in-depth understanding of how EI works and the associated consequences. The knowledge gained will facilitate the introduction of training modules on how to manage emotional hypersensitivity. These modules will enable both children and adults to fully harness the power of emotions.
