New SNSF project: Including refugees in VET

Recognised refugees and temporarily admitted persons face the difficult challenge of fully integrating into the labour market and becoming active members of society. Vocational education and training and workplace guidance play a pivotal role in this process.

During the training process, guidance provided at the workplace and within the community of practice is important. Guidance can help to develop agency among learners. This not only makes it easier for them to fully integrate into the labour market, but also encourages their active participation in society and contributes to their personal growth.

This project is designed to achieve the following main objectives:

  1. Identify the various workplace guidance practices used at host companies during PAI.
  2. Identify the contextual elements that influence the creation and implementation of workplace guidance.
  3. Analyse the experiences of refugees in vocational education and training, and specifically in workplace guidance in the light of their trajectory and current living conditions..
  4. Based on the outcome of the previous three objectives, assess the impact of workplace guidance on the development of agency among refugees during their integration pre-apprenticeship, considering the particularities of their trajectory.
