SFUVET expresses its solidarity with the people of Ukraine

The information and images we have been receiving from Ukraine since last week are shocking and disturbing. They show the suffering of people whose freedom, security and personal integrity are being taken away from them. The war against Ukraine violates fundamental rights and values which we believed mankind had achieved as a knowledge-based society in the 21st century.

As a university, we condemn this act of violence, contemptuous of humanity and law, and declare our solidarity with the people of Ukraine who experience terrible suffering, but also with the people of other countries affected by this crisis. As an education and research institution, we uphold the values of openness, freedom and international understanding and cooperation and support the initiatives of swissuniversities and international university associations aimed at providing direct support to affected students and researchers.

In particular, we wish to consider welcoming threatened scholars through our membership at Scholars at Risk. Even if we are unable to influence developments directly, we see this as an opportunity to make a contribution in the realms of vocational education and training and higher education.
