The Swiss economy is founded on well trained professionals and management at all levels. At the same time, individuals also need to have opportunities for continued professional development, i.e. lifelong learning, throughout their career, so that they can maintain and improve their competitiveness in the labour market. Education policies play an important role in the supply of skilled labour. The VET partners have established positive framework conditions and incentives for people to acquire sound vocational qualifications, and to have opportunities for ongoing vocational education and training and the acquisition of higher qualifications. In their introductory presentations, the SFUVET researchers outlined a historic classification and described current challenges for vocational education and training.

The Network partner conference 2024 (Tripartite Berufsbildungskonferenz) serves as a hub linking the various committees at operative level and the national conferences at the political level. Through the VET partners, it guides vocational training policy at a strategic level and contributes to the ongoing development of education policies.
